Sarah approaches cooking as a symbolic, transformative act. She cooks for herself, her family, and community gatherings, documenting and sharing her process and feelings on recipeasfeeling.com and via a Substack newsletter. She volunteers for the Hastings Farmers Market and serves on the board of the organization that supports the Hastings Food Pantry in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. She is the founder of Potluck Production, a company that produces media, products, and experiences that honor connection through individual expression.

Her influences include American chefs and writers MFK Fisher, Ruth Reichl, Madhur Jaffrey, Sally Schmitt, Renée Erickson, and Alison Roman. She draws from her heritage as a descendant of Eastern European Jews from Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Russia. She grew up in New England and spent a decade living in California. Her tastes formed wandering Asian cities including Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul, Hanoi, Phnom Penh, and Singapore. She has engaged in self-driven study in energetic herbalism and the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda. Sarah integrates her many influences into her own intuitive style, which she describes as “sensuality and pleasure aligned with spirit.”

After 17 years working in technology, where she led large organizations influencing product development and marketing, in 2021 she left her job as an executive at Facebook to undertake her own emergent creative process. She sees cooking as an antidote for the flatness of screens and the fragmentation of modern life. More than that, it’s love: a process of attunement within herself, and an opportunity to create resonance with others. And it’s political. “This is being human,” she writes. “If we are going to build the systems and technology that will sustain us as humans – whether that’s economic, governmental, health, education, media, travel, whatever practice you are part of – we start with awareness of what we’re hungry for.”
